Baton Rouge lost 3 of its finest and I am at a loss for words. Trying to explain what it feels like to not recognize the community I grew up in leaves me shaking my head and then bowing it to pray. My husband woke me up to tell me what was going on and all I could do was say “Oh God!” and pray. As I watched and listened to the news unfold I found myself in shock.
I kept thinking “this is not Baton Rouge!”
Then I was angry. Then I was overcome with sorrow. Followed by more anger… tears… heartache… and fear. This horrible event reminded me that life is short. LIFE IS SHORT! And we are not guaranteed tomorrow. Get right with Jesus today.
During the day I found myself hugging our baby girl tighter and giving her more kisses. I sat down for lunch with my family and we prayed for God to heal our city. I found myself not rushing lunch or looking at my phone because I wanted to soak up all this blessing that I call my family was pouring out. These are things I could do. I felt helpless not being able to do more to stop things like this from happening.
As Christians, we are to do what God commands of us. Love one another, our neighbors, our brothers and sisters, our enemies. Let our lives be a witness of His glory, and spread His good news. We are to pray pray pray. Pray for the enemy, pray for the country, the world, the Church. Pray for guidance, peace, and strength. Tell God what you’re feeling, even if you feel disappointment, or anger, or fear, or helplessness, or worry that He isn’t in control. God already knows what is in our hearts, and until we lift those things up to Him freely, He cannot mend our broken hearts. We stand in our own way of healing. Pray that God show you how He can and wants to use you during these times. Your ministry may be missions, or simply talking to neighbors, or organizing a group or simply a prayer ministry. Prayer is powerful. Prayer IS a ministry. Begin with prayer and seek to align your desires with God’s will in this time. With faithful prayer and an open heart, He will guide.
They are God’s words, not mine. I am not that eloquent (just ask my husband).
My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matt. 5:44-45
“And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; Acts 15:8
These are trying times. Please don’t let hate infect your heart.
